Rutledge says 'no' to Democrats' trillion-dollar health plan
Urges Marylanders to join him in protecting economic freedom

FOREST HILL, Maryland - On the heels of the Democrat-led House's approval of another trillion-dollar expenditure of taxpayer money under the guise of health care reform, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Jim Rutledge in public appearances this week called on fiscal conservatives in the Senate to reject Democrats' irresponsible spending and stand up for Americans' economic freedom.

Citing the cost and scope of legislation that narrowly passed the House on Saturday, Rutledge urged Maryland's Senate delegation to put the brakes on the $1.3 trillion, 1,990-page bill and instead focus on ways to empower Old Line State families to take control of their economic futures so they can continue to meet weekly budgets and pay for college tuition amid the worst job market in nearly three decades.

"A trillion dollars of the American peoples' money, 1,900 pages of government health care mandates and more than a hundred new federal bureaucracies equal one thing: a raid on our personal checkbooks and one of the biggest threats to our economic security in decades," Rutledge said.

Rutledge also spoke of limiting the federal government's growth, reducing state and local tax burdens as well as the U.S. Constitution's guarantee of individual freedom in appearances before the South Carroll Republican Club and the Calvert County Republican Central Committee earlier this week.

"As a Reagan conservative, I believe that more government is never the solution to Maryland's challenges," Rutledge said. "Apparently Ms. Mikulski and her Democratic colleagues in the Senate believe they're better judges of how to spend Americans' money than the American people are."
