Solutions during Economic Uncertainty
The economic crisis of 2008 - 2009, a new administration promoting major changes in domestic policy, and the continuing war on terror has brought our nation to a decision point in history. Do we move away from free market principles opting for a quick interventionist remedy or do we hold fast to those principles trusting the market will correct itself and freedom will prevail? Truth be told, we come to this same decision point with each crisis - pass a law or don't pass a law forcing the correction? When times look bad, those quick options really look promising: a quick fix for a seemingly low cost. Unfortunately, it never turns out as promised. A new entitlement is created, a freedom is stripped away, competition is reduced or destroyed, or the government steps in to parent.
The solution during economic uncertainty is freedom: freedom for the market to correct itself, freedom for the individual to capitalize on their situation, and freedom for competition. If the government is compelled to take action, then the first action should be to rescind laws and reduce regulations creating the barriers to these freedoms. The Heritage Foundation and The Wall Street Journal created an index of economic freedom showing the direct correlation of economic freedom to prosperity. This index and their research shows as economic freedoms are unleashed prosperity grows, poverty is reduced, and competition prevails. Therefore as we broach each decision, engage your representatives to choose economic freedom instead of the quick fix solution. Standing with free market principles always pays off in the long run.
Thank You US Supreme Court!
Thank you Supreme Court for lifting the Bi-partisan Campaign Finance Reform Act's restrictions on political speech! This landmark ruling is worth reading. It will reaffirm your belief in the First Amendment and, in some part, reaffirm your faith in the Supreme Court to rule in favor of the people and uphold the Constitution. Justice Kennedy wrote the opinion of the Court and the second to last paragraph says it best:
Those choices and assessments, however, are not for the Government to make. "The First Amendment underwrites the freedom to experiment and to create in the realm of thought and speech. Citizens must be free to use new forms, and new forums, for the expression of ideas. The civic discourse belongs to the people, and the Government may not prescribe the means used to conduct it."
